Over 90 Years of Compassion and Care
Who We Are.
Hope4Paws Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees. Our story began in 1933 with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide every homeless pet—especially those with special needs or challenges—with a safe, loving, and appropriate forever home.
Guided by Values, Driven by Purpose
As a no-kill nonprofit animal rescue and shelter, our work is guided by four core values that shape how we care for animals, support adopters, and educate our community.
Respect
We treat every animal with dignity and compassion, and every person with honesty and respect—reflecting our commitment as a humane society and animal rescue organization.
Care & nurturing
We provide compassionate, hands-on care for rescued animals, supporting their physical healing, emotional well-being, and readiness for adoption.
Protection
We advocate for the safety and welfare of vulnerable animals through rescue, sheltering, and responsible adoption practices.
Education
We educate our community about animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and humane care to help prevent neglect and improve lives.
Our Mission
Our story began in 1933 with a simple yet powerful mission: to provide every homeless animal, especially those with special needs or challenges, with a safe, loving, forever home.
We believe every animal — regardless of age, breed, or background—deserves love, respect, and a safe place to call home. Through adoption, education, and advocacy, we work every day to end animal homelessness, strengthen the human-animal bond, and create a future filled with hope for every paw.
Our Vision
We envision a world where no animal is homeless and every pet can thrive in a safe, loving home.
For over 90 years, Hope4Paws has been a beacon of hope for thousands of cats and dogs, and we’re proud to continue that legacy today as a no-kill animal shelter serving communities across New Jersey.
What “No-Kill” Means to Us
We dedicate our efforts to healing, treating, and rehoming every healthy and treatable pet— including those with special needs or behavioral challenges. Euthanasia is reserved only for animals who are suffering from untreatable medical conditions or pose a serious public safety risk. Our goal is always to give every animal the best possible chance at life.

Adopting a pet is a meaningful, life-changing decision — for you and for the animal you welcome into your home. Want to know how adopting a pet works? This is the place to go.
Open your home temporarily and help an animal heal, grow, or decompress outside the shelter. Fostering saves lives and creates space for the next animal in need.
