Foster a Shelter Animal

Open your home and your heart to an animal in need of a little extra time & TLC

Fostering for HOPE4Paws

Fostering an animal in need is one of the most powerful ways you can help save animals in our community. By welcoming a pet into your home temporarily, you give them the safety, stability, and love they need to heal, grow, and prepare for their forever family. Whether you can foster for a weekend, a few weeks, or a few months—you are making space for another life to be saved.

Benefits of Fostering

Foster homes are essential to our lifesaving mission. Fostering provides animals with numerous benefits.

Reduced stress and improved health
Socialization in a real home environment
Time to heal from illness, injury, or trauma
A better chance at successful adoption

And for you?

Fostering is deeply rewarding, flexible, and life-changing—often in ways people don’t expect.

What Does Fostering Involve?

Fostering is temporary—but your impact is permanent.

As a foster, you provide:

  • A safe, loving home

  • Daily care (feeding, exercise, litter walks, basic routines)

  • Administer any prescribed medications and follow any special dietary instructions.

  • Observation and notes on behavior, health and personality

  • Transportation to scheduled vet visits (when needed)

  • If the animal becomes ill, contact the shelter immediately for guidance. For after-hours emergencies, proceed to the designated emergency veterinary hospital.

  • If an adopter is interested in meeting the animal, you will be responsible for bringing the pet to the shelter for the meet and greet.

Hope4Paws provides:

  • Veterinary care

  • Supplies (as available)

  • Guidance, training resources, and ongoing support

  • A dedicated team to answer questions every step of the way

Typical timeframes include:

  • a few days (emergency or short-term fosters)
  • 2–4 weeks (medical recovery or young litters)
  • Several months (behavioral support or long-term care)
