Volunteer Opportunities

Whether you choose to work behind the scenes, in our shelter or from home, there are many ways to volunteer at Hope 4 Paws Humane Society.

Social Media Volunteer

H4PHS is seeking an experienced, committed social media volunteer to take staff-provided photos, videos, and write-ups of our animals and post them on our social media platforms. Your support will help us shine the spotlight on dogs and cats waiting to be adopted! 

We are looking for someone with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience to take charge of the following responsibilities:

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Daily posting to social platforms. (graphic design experience helpful)

  • Checking and responding to basic comments and messages. (approved list of Q&A)

  • Research on post analytics to help with future post planning.

  • Creation and maintenance of a social media calendar.

  • Researching informational/educational posts, submitting info for approval.

  • Cleaning up current platforms and optimizing the functionality of the organization's LinkedIn account.

Front Desk Greeter / Office Support

H4PHS is in need of administrative support to ensure that the staff have time to work directly with animals in need of adoption. If you are organized and have a helpful, friendly nature, then we need your help with the following duties: 

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Front desk greeter

  • Answering phones

  • Checking in, tracking, and organizing in-kind donations of supplies dropped off daily in the lobby.

  • Filing and scanning documents

  • Stuffing Envelopes and Database inputting

  • Responding to general information emails

  • Cleaning office space (mopping, dishes, kitchen, hallway, lobby, and helping with the laundry)

Companion Animal Volunteers

Companion volunteers provide hands-on care and enrichment for animals at the shelter, as well as at offsite locations and adoption events. Volunteers may train for one or both companion programs:

  • Dog Volunteers

  • Cat Volunteers

Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteer tasks may include, but are not limited to the following:

Animal Care & Enrichment

  • Walking management-approved dogs

  • Playing with cats and dogs to support socialization

  • Creating enrichment items to stimulate animals and reduce stress

  • Giving approved treats

  • Spot cleaning litter boxes, dog kennels, and outdoor dog areas

  • Cleaning and disinfecting animal spaces

  • Washing and sanitizing cat and dog food and water bowls

Shelter Support & Operations

  • Cleaning inside and outside the shelter (debris, toys, trash, weeds, etc.)

  • Organizing donations and maintaining orderly storage areas

  • Assisting at the front desk

  • Filling out animal “notification sheets” on bulletin boards or doors to alert staff and the veterinarian of any health concerns

    In case of an emergency, please notify the Director immediately

  • Writing detailed animal profiles based on your interactions, including personality traits and quirks

Maintenance & Specialized Support

  • Shelter maintenance and minor repairs

  • Grounds maintenance and landscaping

  • Social media support

  • Photography and videography

Community Engagement

  • Assisting with adoption events and offsite outreach opportunities

Hope 4 Paws Humane Society Board Committee Volunteer Program

This program offers assistance at the shelter or at offsite locations. This does not require working directly with the animals.

Foster Volunteer

Foster volunteers provide temporary care for animals in a safe, loving home environment. Fostering helps animals thrive outside the shelter while freeing up space to save more lives. 

You may apply for one or more of the following foster options, based on your availability and experience:

Foster Program Options

  • Neonatal / Bottle-Feeding Kitten Fosters

    Provide around-the-clock care for newborn kittens who require bottle feeding and close monitoring.

  • Cat

    Care for adult cats or kittens who benefit from a quieter home setting to relax, heal, or socialize.

  • Puppy and Dog Fosters

    Help puppies and dogs grow, recover, or learn basic manners in a home environment before adoption.

  • Fospice Fosters

    Offer compassionate, end-of-life care for senior or medically fragile animals, providing comfort, dignity, and love.
